Sing Psalms to the Lord

Music Text and Translations

Let all the World

Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King!

The heavens are not too high,
His praise may thither fly;
The earth is not too low,
His Praises there may grow.

The Church with psalms must shout,
No door can keep them out;
But above all the heart
Must bear the longest part

Wake Up, My Soul, Wake Up and Sing

Wake up, my soul, wake up and sing!

Sing of what the Lord has done;

Shout praises through the morning mist,

And wake up the sleepy sun.

Wake up, my harp, His praise resound!

Music make with ev’ry string;

His love is great and good and sure.

Now wake up, oh world, and sing!

I cried out to the Lord for help,

I cried, and He was listening.

He took me from my pit of gloom;

And taught me how to sing.

And now I sing His song to all,

I sing of what the Lord can do.

So may all turn to Him when lost,

And sing a new song too.

Wake up, my soul, wake up and sing!

Sing of what the Lord has done;

Shout praises through the morning mist,

And wake up the sleepy sun.

Wake up, my harp, His praise resound!

Music make with ev’ry string;

His love is great and good and sure.
Now wake up, O world and sing.

Wake up, my soul!  Wake up and sing!  Alleluia!

May God Be Merciful To Us (Psalm 67)

May God be merciful to us and bless us,

show us the light of his countenance and come to us.

Let your ways be known upon earth,

your saving health among all nations.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

Let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,

for you judge the peoples with equity

and guide all the nations upon earth.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

The earth has brought forth her increase;

may God, our own God, give us his blessing.

May God give us his blessing,

and may all the ends of the earth stand in awe of him.

Sicut Cervus (Psalm 42)

Sicut cervus desiderat

ad fontes aquarum:

ita desiderat

anima mea ad te, Deus.

     As the deer longs for streams of waters,

     so longs my soul for you, God.

As the Thirsty Deer
(Psalm 42-43)

The thirsty deer will yearn and dream

To find that cooling, running stream.

So too, my God, you still come first;

And like the deer, for you I thirst.

O why should I be sad and pained?

My hope in God is not in vain.

My foes look on, they laugh at me:

"Where is your God: yes where is he?"

Now I recall those times of prayer

When songs of joy would fill the air.

O Lord, my life is filled with woe;

My heart is crushed, my spirit low.

But morning, noon, and night I share

Your living presence found in prayer.

Bring judgment, Lord, upon the earth;

And show my foes what I am worth.

The people who do not believe

Whose clever, cutting words deceive.

O Lord, send out your truth and light;

Now take my side and fight my fight.

Your praise is ever on my tongue,

Since I was born, since I was young.

Within your house, I'll sing your praise

With saints and angels all my days.

Your truth will guide me clearly, then;

Your light will lead me home again.

My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (Psalm 23)

My Shepherd will supply my need,

Jehovah is his Name.

In pastures fresh he makes me feed

Beside the living stream.

He brings my wand’ring spirit back

When I forsake his ways.

He leads me for his mercy’s sake

In paths of truth and grace.

When I walk through the shades of death,

Thy presence is my stay.

One word of thy supporting breath

Drives all my fears away.

Thy hand, in sight of all my foes,

Doth still my table spread.

My cup with blessings overflows,

Thine oil anoints my head.

The sure provisions of my God

Attend me all my days.

O may thy house be my abode

And all my work be praise.

There would I find a settled rest,

While others go and come,

No more a stranger or a guest,

But like a child at home.

Little David

Little David, play on your harp, Hallelujah!

Little David was a shepherd boy,

He killed Goliath and shouted for joy.

Ol’ Joshua was the son of Nun,

He never would stop ‘till the work was done

New Songs of Celebration Render (Psalm 98)

New songs of celebration render

To God who has great wonders done;

Love sits enthroned in ageless splendor;

Come and adore the mighty One.

God has made known the great salvation

Which all the saints with joy confess.

God has revealed to every nation

Truth and unending righteousness.

Joyfully, heartily resounding,

Let every instrument and voice

Peal out the praise of grace abounding,

Calling the whole world to rejoice.

Trumpets and organs, set in motion

Such sounds as make the heavens ring;

All things that live in earth and ocean,

Sound forth the song, your praises bring.

Rivers and seas and torments roaring,

Honor the Lord with wild acclaim;

Mountains and stones, look up adoring,

And find a voice to praise God’s name.

Righteous, commanding, ever glorious,

Praises be sung that never cease:

Just is our God, whose truth victorious

Establishes the world in peace.

O How Amiable (Psalms 84 and 90)

O how amiable are thy dwellings: thou Lord of hosts!

My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord:

My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found her a house,

And the swallow a nest where she may lay her young:

Even thy altars, O Lord of Hosts, my King and my God.

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house:

They will be alway praising thee.

The glorious Majesty of the Lord our God is upon us:

Prosper thou the work of our hands upon us.

O prosper thou our handywork,

O prosper thou our handywork.

O God our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home

Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord (Psalm 100)

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands,

Serve the Lord with gladness, serve the Lord.

Come before His presence with singing, all ye lands

Know ye that the Lord He is God;

it is He who hath made us,

and not we ourselves;

we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,

and into His courts with praise;

Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.

For the Lord is good, bless his name.

His mercy is everlasting, bless the Lord;

His truth endureth all generations, bless the Lord.

Psallite Deo nostro  - Gregorian chant, Psalm 47, Mode II

Psallite Deo nostro, psallite, psallite Regi nostro, psallite sapienter.
Sing psalms to our God, sing psalms,
sing psalms to our King, sing psalms with all your talent.

Omnes gentes, plaudite manibus;

iubilate Deo in voce exultationis.

Quoniam Dominus excelsus, terribilis,

rex magnus super omnem terram.

All you peoples, clap your hands;

cry out to God with a voice of exultation.

For the Lord is high and awesome,

A great king over all the earth.

Elegit nobis hereditatem suam

speciem Iacob, quam dilexit.

Ascendit Deus in iubilo

et Dominus in voce tubae.

He chose for us his inheritance,

The glory which he loved for Jacob.

God goes up in jubilation

and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.

Psallite Deo nostro, psallite,

psallite Regi nostro, psallite.

Quoniam Rex omnis terrae Deus,

psallite sapienter.

Sing psalms to our God, sing psalms,

sing psalms to our King, sing psalms.

For God is King of all the earth,

sing psalms with all your talent.

A Mighty Fortress

A mighty fortress is our God,
A sword and shield victorious;
He breaks the cruel oppressor's rod
And wins salvation glorious.
The old satanic foe
Has sworn to work us woe!
With craft and dreadful might
He arms himself to fight
On earth he has no equal.

No strength of ours can match his might!
We would be lost, rejected.
But now a champion comes to fight,
Whom God himself perfected.
You ask who this may be?
The Lord of hosts is he!
Christ Jesus, mighty Lord,
God's only Son, adored.
He holds the field victorious.

Though hoards of devils fill the land

All threatening to devour us,

We tremble not unmoved we stand;

They cannot overpower us.

Let this world's tyrant rage;

In battle we'll engage!

His might is doomed to fail;

God's judgment must prevail!

One little word subdues him.

God's Word forever shall abide,

No thanks to foes, who fear it.

For God himself fights by our side

With weapons of the Spirit.

Were they to take our house.

Goods, honor, child, or spouse,

Though life be wrenched away.

They cannot win the day.

The kingdom's ours forever.
