There are no minimum musical requirements for being in the National Catholic Youth Choir,

but the following information will help us to select the most highly qualified applicants.

Personal Essay

Please write a paragraph (maximum 300 words) telling us why you would like to be in the National Catholic Youth Choir and what you hope to experience during your time in the choir.  Please use a separate sheet of paper.

Please ask two adults who know you and are not related to you to fill out the enclosed recommendation forms.  If possible, your references should be from one of each of the following:

1.       A musician (for example, music teacher, the choir and/or band director, private lesson teacher).

2.       An employer, teacher, minister, or religious (for example, pastor, religious sister or brother, youth minister,  

religious education director, coach, boss, manager).

If you cannot find references that meet the above categories, please find adult references you feel are able to give accurate recommendations for you.

The recommendations are to be mailed directly to Collegeville by your references.

This is required for your application.

Include with your application a cassette tape or cd with a brief recording of you singing.  Please do not record yourself with any accompaniment - there should be no piano or other instrument playing during your singing.   Do not include any other musical selections other than the two items listed below. The audition recording may not be electronically enhanced or altered in any way.  You may use any type of standard cassette tape or cd for this audition.  Mini-cassette tapes will not be accepted.

This is what is to be included on the recording: 

1.       A musical scale up and down on any vowel sound (for example, looh or laah).

2.       One stanza of a hymn.  Please sing one verse (and refrain if applicable) from one of the following: Jesus Christ is Risen Today; O Come, All Ye Faithful; or America, the Beautiful.  These hymns can be found in any standard hymnal.
